Weekend rides?

  1. Anyone got some suggestions on a longer (2-3 day) ride, maybe some camping and scenery (and of course twisties!) I need a break from work!

If all of Idaho wasn't on fire, I'd suggest going up to Challis north of Stanley. Perhaps when the fires are out, I'll join you. I've been wanting to get back up there and it would rock to strap a tent to my bike and take off.

  3. K-Bom (I don't know if he's on this site) is always talking about Lolo Pass. I'd like to make that ride. I don't know if I could make a long trip the rest of this year. Keep us posted on what you end up doing though.
  4. There's some of us heading over to Baker City, OR on Sept 22, 23, 24 for a sport-touring.net get together and some riding over there. There are some nice roads.

We are going to head over Friday morning and come back Sunday. You are welcome to roll with us and I think there will be 5 or 6 of us so far. We are all Staying at the OregonTrail Motel which is very cheap and clean but I think there is camping close by too. Most important though is that the Motel is within stumbling distance of a brew pub. ;D

Ride all day and drink beers in the evening. How cool is that.

  5. BTW, Lolo Pass/highway 12 from Grangeville over to Missoula is absolutely totally fricken fantastic. The road is pristine with combos of every kind of turn there is. Good stuff. That's my old FZ1 and a friend's Z1000.

That is how all of my long trips have been. Always try to find a motel within walking distance to a minimart/bar.....

BTW, Lolo pass is a nice road, but I have only done it in a UHaul van (max size) and it sucked big time...
  7. Well, it's looking like we should form a trip up there for next year. It's 400 miles or so. Durka Turka did it on his Gixxer after I tricked him and told him I was bringing mine and then showed up on the FJR instead.

OK, I didn't do it on purpose.

XLR8, I have done 1700 miles on one trip on my CBR (I knew what I was getting into...). I would be up for a long run, but don't expect me to be in a good mood until after a couple of beers.
  9. Sounds fun, but I've got some family in town that weekend. What route do you take to get there?

Where to you go for this Lolo pass place?

  10. We are headed through Hell's Canyon to Halfway to Baker City. I may ride all the way up to John Day and meet some friends coming down from Seattle. Don't know yet.

Lolo Pass is on Highway 12 between Grangeville, ID and Missoula, MT
