UPDATED 11:02 a.m. ? Motorcyclist identified in fatal crash on Connector

    http://idahostatesman.com/apps/pbcs...60906/NEWS01/60906012&SearchID=73256082787496

A Mountain Home man is dead after a motorcycle accident on Interstate 184, the Connector, early today.
Gabriel Lee Voigt, 33, died as a result of the accident on the westbound Connector just west of 13th Street Downtown.
No other people or vehicles were involved in the crash.
Ada County dispatchers received a call about 12:45 a.m.
Witnesses reported the motorcycle was speeding, said Boise police spokeswoman Lynn Hightower.
Voigt skidded about 47 feet and flipped over the outside wall, Hightower said. He was found in a grassy area next to the road and pronounced dead at the scene.
Voigt was not wearing a helmet, according to the Ada County Coroner's Office.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, Hightower said.

    R.I.P.
I'm feeling like a gear nazi lately because of all the accidents. I told some noob on a Gixxer at Albertsons that he better start wearing a helmet. Not only is it giving us Gixxer riders a bad image it also will save his life. He just rode off in his shorts and no gear, not even glasses.

  3. Nothing wrong with being a gear Nazi. Better safe than sorry. If it helps save one life it is worth saying something IMO.

  4. Fricken squids on gixxers. They're everywhere!

It's sad about the dude that crashed. Anytime someone dies on a bike it's a tragedy. However, I wish self preservation were more hip around here. Now having said that, I did a little experiment last week. I rode to work in shorts. :squid:

I know, I know but I had to try it. And it wasn't all that. At first it was nice, until the bike warmed up, and then I got hotter than if I were wearing jeans.

  5. I dont see how you can ride with out any glasses it seems impossible. As for wearing shorts between the heat, roadrash and the Possibilities of bugs at 55mph i dont think i wanna try that for My ride to work :beehive:

  6. If I am to ride to work I just about gotta wear shorts... thinkin about throwin jeans over top just for the ride, but its accross mountain home...dont get over 35....

I work at wally world as a cart pusher, thats why I need shorts, in case you were wondering :laughat:

Damn, I have heard of more Motorcycle accidents in the last week than I remember in a long while! There was one on the news this morning, but have not heard any other details.

XLR8, I don't even want to know why you wanted to even try an experiment with wearing shorts. Could have gone bad....

And BlindLOKI, if you wear shorts at work, there is no reason for not wearing leathers over them for the ride to work.

Sorry guys, just had to post those thoughts, feel free to respond as you see fit.

Ok, I thought about this for a minute and I appologize BlindLOKI, I wear leather jacket, helmet, gloves, levi's, and sturdy shoes on my commute. I should not be telling you to wear leather pants.

    Sorry.

  9. Hey you gear nazi! ;D

I'm usually the guy who wears gear all the time. In fact I just ordered an Aerostich to commute in. Like I said, it was an experiment. :flipa

    :8):

When I was in college I was a competitive cyclist and I've been down a few times at 40Mph wearing lycra. Aint no big deal as long as you scrub out the wound really really well. Commuting at 30 or 35Mph wearing shorts doesn't bother me because jeans are hardly any better.

I figured you would call me out...

I do have to disagree about the jeans being any better, they are, but not to the extent that leathers are.

Lycra sucks, but I do wear lycra riding shorts under my suit. They even have the butt cheek pads in them. Ooohh.....

Oh yeah, and having gone down at 45ish in the dirt and rocks with the full gear on, I think I am qualified to be a Gear Nazi...

  12. I tried my bike shorts under my leathers a few weeks ago and my ass caught on fire. I'm going back to my REI smart wool stuff.

Smart wool??? What is this Smart wool that you speak of??? If sheep were so smart, they would not live in Montana (were the men are men, and sheep are scared)

Seriously, I will have to check out REI on this as soon as you give me the specifics.

Smartwool is fantastic! I donm't have any smartwool underwear but I do wear smartwool socks for snowboarding. Those very same socks are perfect in my riding boots and keep my feet dry, comfy and blister free.
