Motorized trail closures extended in Danskin mountains

According to a press issued by the U.S. Forest Service Mountain Home Ranger District, the closure for motorized access on all trails in the Danskin Mountains OHV Area has been extended through April 26.

The extension is intended to minimize trail damage and protect resources due to lingering snow and continued rainfall that have led to very wet trail conditions.

The closure prohibits all motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle travel on designated trails within the Danskin Mountains OHV Area.

Mountain Home District Ranger Larry Tripp extended the closure past the anticipated ending on April 10th due to the 10-day forecast of continued cool wet weather and the anticipated slow snow-melt conditions.

Trail restrictions are annually put in place during the late winter and early spring seasons to reduce potential damage on soft or muddy trails.

The extended restrictions are established by a Forest Supervisor closure order and are enforceable by Forest Service law enforcement officers.

Primary access routes and area trailheads are signed with a closure order. A key ingredient to protect the trails is user compliance. Citizens observing illegal activity are encouraged to report violators to Forest Service law enforcement officers.

The Danskin Mountains OHV Area is located about 20 miles east of Boise and contains nearly 160 miles of designated motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle trails.
