Boise man killed in motorcycle accident over the weekend
    Edition Date: 05-01-2006

Ada County Sheriff's deputies are still investigating a fatal motorcycle vs. truck accident which occurred Saturday night just south of Boise on Cole Road.

Joshua Nathaniel Cornell, 23, of Boise, died Sunday from injuries sustained in the accident. The driver of the truck, Jason Kent, 20, of Boise, was not seriously injured in the crash, which occurred at the intersection of South Cole Road and Dessert Avenue, south of the Edwards movie theater complex in south Boise at 5:38 p.m. Saturday.

Here is what investigators say happened: Cornell was driving his motorcycle southbound on Cole Road when the motorcycle collided with the pick-up truck driven by Kent, which was attempting to turn north on to Cole Road from Dessert.

Cornell, critically injured by the force of the collision, was taken by emergency crews to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, where he died Sunday. Cornell was wearing a helmet, according to sheriff's reports.

The exact cause of the accident is still being investigated and no charges have been filed at this time, according to reports. Traffic on Cole Road does not have to stop at the intersection.

Re: Motorcyclist dead. Accidenty still under investigation. (April 29th - Cole

Tonight, I saw a picture of the pickup and bike on the road. Out of respect for the fallen rider, I'm not going to post the image.

The bike was pretty thrashed and the left rear wheel was completely gone from the pickup.

It looks like the rider didn't have time to slow down as the pickup turned left from Dessert onto Cole. The rider colided with the back end of the pickup hard enough that it spun the pickup around and the wheel was yanked off from the sideways motion of the pickup.

Reports I hear are that the rider was moving extremely fast southbound on Cole and had passed several vehicles.
I completely believe that drivers, whether intentional or not, will exaggerate the speed of a sport bike when describing an accident but from what I saw in the picture its difficult to imagine he was doing close to the speed limit.

I automatically want to side with the rider but, I don't have all of the facts and I must accept that bike/automobile crashes are not always the fault of drivers who don't see motorcycles.

  5. My wife saw it right after it happened, she said the bike was just in pieces, and she could see the helmet just laying there. and blood all over the street.

This stuff makes me sick to my stomach. I know that intersection quite well as I go cycling out there often. It's one of those places that a cager can become inattentive because there isn't a lot of traffic and yet there's still enough that you need to take care. And it's a place where it's easy to find yourself going over the limit a little because you are almost out in the sticks.

    Very sad.

That happened right in front of carles house. He was first on scene to help the young man. Police said they calculated he was going 109 mph. we all jknow that is possible but i still beleive it is exagerated. I travel that road and when going fast without traffic i find myself at about 75. The truck pulled out because he could not see to the right. but did not check twice to to the left and started pulling out when finally clear on the right. The motorcycle tried to swerve left instead of trying to swerve right and go behind the truck. You can imagine the rider trying to make a decision with the truch poking out the intersection. Who knows if he could have squeezed behind it. The truck driver and motorcycle riders parents work together at the guard. They know each other all involved feal it a terrible accident. It was a terrible accident may the rider rest in peace and all involved be able to leave the trama behind.
